Unit 9

Hi Everyone,

INTRODUCTION

Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually, and physically?  A practitioner in the health and wellness field should consider learning these skills to further treat patients.  A patient in care might have strong spiritual beliefs.  How nice would it be for a physician to relate to their patient’s spiritual feelings?  A spiritual mind reveals wisdom and open heart to qualities of human flourishing (Dacher).  A physician or practitioner can open and reveal inner strengths of the patient with integral healing. What areas do I need to work on for myself?   I would like to work on my psychological healing.  For others, I can help them mature their inner life and bring calm, care, and delight (Dacher).  For my psychological healing too much stress on a daily basis overwhelms my patience to be calm mentally.  Physically I do not show any emotions of being disturbed or stress.  I need to work on psychological healing.

Assessment

Have I assessed my health in each domain?  I have assessed my health with integral healing practices.  I assessed my health when I work out at the gym.  I assessed my health everyday with prayer.  How will I rate my psychological wellness?  I rate my psychological wellness a seven out of ten.  The reason for a 7 out of 10 rating is I can stabilize my heart but I lack stabilization in my mind.  I am very hard on myself.  And I want “peace of mind”.  How about spiritually?  I rate my spirituality a 9 out of 10.  I put all my faith into God.  I pray every day.  I pray while I am driving to work, before eating, during a depressive moment, before bed, and just giving thanks for being alive.  I can implement a spiritual exercise into my life like Yoga.  An exercise I do has a little Yoga and I like it.  Have I assessed my physical being?  I work on my physical.  I rate my physical a 8 out of 10.  I can definitely use some improvements with mind to body awareness. Connect my mind to biology to a more subtle mind/ body and spiritual body (Dacher).  My health and diet has great improvements.  I am discovering other foods rather than the norm like broccoli and chicken.  I have tried vegetarian foods, different fruits, no deep frying, no soda, limited pork, and lots of water.

Goal Development

Do I have at least one goal for psychologically, spiritually, and physically?  I do have a goal.  The goal I have for psychologically is to identify my destructive emotions and dysfunctional patterns and replace them with new attitudes, emotions, and behaviors (Dacher).  As I mentioned earlier, separate the negative emotions and relax more in subtle mind.  The goal I have spiritually is to unite psychologically with spirituality.  I need to dig deeper in my mind more subtle and sustain natural wisdom and inner peace (Dacher).  The goal I have physically is to use my mind to focus more healing my body with mind.  I like to adapt meditation in my healing.  I need to develop a better breathing exercise that fits me.  I know it sounds a little weird but breathing with my eye close put me to sleep.

Practices for Personal Health

What strategies do I have for psychologically, physically, and spiritually?  Two strategies I have for psychologically is loving-kindness and subtle mind practice.  I like them both.  I would use the loving-kindness exercise when I am at work.  I have a hard time settling my mind when I am stress.  So I will focus on my cartoon which I love so much is “Tom and Jerry” because I my colleagues play so many games and gossip at work.  Subtle mind exercise I will use at home.  I have to relax my mind and go to my innermost subtle mind to release all the tension from work.  The two strategies I have for physically are to work out at the gym and do Yoga.  I like working out at the gym lifting weights and sweating.  I loosen me and I focus more on tense muscle in my neck and back.  I want to implement Yoga in my life.  I am stress mentally and physically.  Working on my breathing with stretching and innermost biology is rewarding.  It is not all about flexibility but inner peace.  The two strategies I have for spiritually is meditation and prayer.  These two practices work for me.  I love prayer.  I need to focus more on reading the Bible to officiate my ways with stress.  I need meditation.  I meditate all the time when I am alone.  I sit in a room (dark) with my slow jams (music) playing and just visualizing on the sceneries and moments in my life (past and future).

Commitment

How will assess my commitment in the next six months?  I will use my appointment alert on Microsoft Outlook at work, my cell phone, and the refrigerator at home.  The appointment alert on Microsoft Outlook pops a small screen giving me an alert.  For example, the alert pops ups giving me the appointment time to meditate or pray.  I will have it schedule through the year. Either I will do it or dismiss it.  My cell phone has the same feature. Under the Tools menu, click on the calendar icon and pick a day and time for a practice or exercise.  It will display and buzz- like an alarm clock.  My refrigerator is definitely a great source to remind me to exercise (physically).  I like to eat (like anyone else like too) and a schedule of the year with days to work out on the refrigerator will be my motivator.  Also, a weekly menu for dinner will be on the refrigerator will help me budget and focus more on eating healthy.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New!!!
